Launch and ribbon-cutting of the United Arab Emirates-sponsored “Year of Zayed” Photographic Exhibition

WFP’s Second Regular Session was selected as one of the global venues to hold this exhibition on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's work. It celebrates the 100 years since the birth of the late founding father and former President of the United Arab Emirates (1971-2004). The exhibition will focus on Sheikh Zayed's role in empowering women's humanitarian relief and belief in ensuring social, economic and environmental sustainability. The Executive Director and the Vice Head of Mission of the United Arab Emirates will preside.

High-Level Dialogue on Brazil's contribution to enhancing South-South cooperation in the framework of the 2030 Agenda: The sustainable national school feeding case

The event will reflect on lessons learned in the implementation of SSTC and on the results achieved by the innovative Brazil–WFP partnership, building on the previous and current efforts of the Brazilian Government, the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the African Union Commission, etc. Special Guest H.E. Alberto Beltrame, Minister for Social Development, to lead event.

Side event sponsored by WFP Policy and Programme Division and Nutrition Division on South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) as driver for SDG 2

The side event will include WFP host government representatives and facilitate a discussion on the role of SSTC as a driver for country-led progress on SDG 2 through country demands. The outcome will feed into the draft outcome document of BAPA+40 in Argentina in March 2019.

Social Protection side event sponsored by WFP Policy and Programme Division and launch of WFP-World Bank Group publication “Can We Better Bridge Humanitarian Assistance and Social Protection? Lessons from Country Experience”

The event will stress the importance of social protection in driving zero hunger results; WFP’s added value to national social protection agendas; and highlight the relevance of social protection for ‘the nexus’ and the significant contribution being made by WFP.

Spain and WFP Gender Division-sponsored side event on Sharing experiences in the fight against gender-based violence in humanitarian and food insecurity contexts

The event will highlight the Government of Spain’s support in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) both nationally and internationally, with presentations on the partnership between the Spanish Cooperation Agency for International Development (AECID) and the NGO APS (Alianza por la Solidaridad) on joint efforts to end GBV in Palestine, Colombia and to Syrian refugees in Jordan. The FAO/IFAD/WFP/UN-Women Joint Programme Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (RWEE) projects which lead to a decrease of violence in target communities will also be featured.

The event will highlight post-harvest initiatives in a variety of countries (e.g., Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Burundi and Sudan) and raise awareness of WFP’s zero food loss work across all activities with a number of government and private sector partners as well as its measurable impact, including empirical, independent evidence, and highlight examples of effective RBA collaboration in this area.
